Buffalo Turf and Various methods of Buffalo Turf LawnCreation

Buffalo turf, which was originally found in North American Great Plains, has been adopted and developed into varieties that can sustain the Australian climate and temperature. In olden days, it remained as warm season turf used as pasture grass for the domesticated and wild animals. Most importantly, it became dormant in winter season and will fast pick up in late spring. However, Australians developed Buffalo turf of their choice that suits their climate and environment.

Some popular types of Australian Buffalo Turf:
•    Sir Walter Buffalo Turf
•    Matilda
•    Shademaster Buffalo
•    Winter Green Couch
•    Santa Anna Couch
•    Kikuyu
Establishment of buffalo turf can be done by three methods:

•    Seeding:Preparing seedbeds and planting them in one to one and half inch soil is one of the methods to create buffalo turf lawns. The seedlings can come out after 21 days. Sometimes it can occur prior to the period. Use of herbicides must be avoided till the seeds germinate. Excessive drying must be prevented at this time.

•    Sodding:With sodding, instant lawns can be obtained. Before establishing sods, sufficient soil preparation must be done. In addition, irrigation of sods also must be done in the same manner like any other transplanted plants. Initially, it will be brown, but very soon the buffalo turf will pick its color. Most important step in this process to be followed is proper irrigation.

•    Plugging:Planting of pre rooted plugs will take into shape from eight to twelve weeks. Keeping the soil along with the plants moist all the time, even though it has become dead is very important for this method.
