The Popularity of Buffalo Turf and Its Varieties You Can Found

Gone are the days when people in Australia usually had normal grass type in their lawns. In the present time, a lot of houses in Australia prefer Buffalo Turf for their lawn; after all, the buffalo types of turf come loaded with plenty of benefits and attractive characteristics. Under the buffalo category, there are several varieties of lawn grass, such as Sapphire, Palmetto, Sir Walter, Shademaster, Kings Pride, Common Buffalo, Matilda and ST 85. Each one of them shares certain common traits and has few distinct features as well.

The Popularity of Buffalo Turf

One of the main reasons behind the popularity of this turf is shade. Buffalo grasses are perfect for shaded lawns, and more than 25 percent of the houses in Australia prefer shaded lawns. It was the year 1840 when the first variety of Buffalo lawn grass was imported into Australia. But, it is still not sure if it has its origin in the Caribbean or Africa. The ship on which it was imported had the name ‘SS Buffalo’, and for this reason this name was given to this lawn grass type. Among all the types of Buffalo grass mentioned above, Sir Walter, Sapphire and Matilda are the most popular ones.

There is no dearth of sellers in the market that claim to offer original Buffalo lawn turfs. You can even purchase it online. But, it would be better if you check out the reviews before making the deal. Otherwise, you may end up with low quality grass type for your lawn.

  1. I wasn't aware that buffalo turf was good in shaded areas. It seems like a good alternative in areas where grass has a harder time growing. I agree with the last section of the post, that it's important to do research so that you don't end up purchasing low quality turf at premium prices. http://www.mardiparkturf.com.au/palmetto-buffalo-turf
